Why SMBs Should Take Note of Sony Security Breach

By Adam Johnson, Limpio MPS

Many SMB business owners will read the latest news regarding Sony’s security breach with interest, but may believe this isn’t relevant to their organization. However, small and medium businesses are becoming targets by hackers with Verizon Communication’s stating in their Data Breach Investigations Report that 62% of data breaches occur at the small business level. One of the reasons for this could be that SMB’s lack the resources, time & budget to put comprehensive security in place.

62% of data breaches occur at the small business level.

Many IT infrastructures evolve organically and it can be a struggle to keep security up to date with the on-going changes. With Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) becoming more and more common and use of cloud services becoming the norm, security is once again of the highest priority. Another survey, this time commissioned by Xerox & McAfee, revealed that two thirds of U.S employees never or rarely worry about confidential information remaining secure.

Are your print devices secure on the network?

To help combat this threat Xerox and McAfee have designed a security system that helps protect against threats to confidential data by integrating embedded McAfee software into Xerox hardware. This technology forms part of Xerox’s unique ‘ConnectKey’ software platform that resides on their latest multifunctional devices allowing organizations to securely embrace mobile & cloud services without concern.

Xerox is the first company to offer McAfee for multifunction printers.

Xerox is the first company to offer McAfee whitelisting technology for multifunction printers which can detect and prevent unauthorized access and tampering of files and send alerts. It also provides a single point of reference for monitoring, reporting and alerts through the McAfee Enterprise security console ePolicy Orchestrator and Xerox Managed Print Services tool set, as well as locking multifunction printer configurations for organizational compliance reducing the need for manual software updates to stay ahead of emerging threats.
