How One Company is Engineering a Better Future with Xerox ConnectKey Technology

Over the past 10 years we’ve seen fundamental shifts in the way work gets done. Amidst those changes, one company is doing more than simply keeping up; it’s leading the way.

On March 10, 2016 Xerox announced the launch of 14 Xerox ConnectKey-enabled i-Series MFPs, each one equipped with ready-to-use apps to speed up paper-dependent business processes and make it easier for users to collaborate and work more effectively. The ConnectKey platform is a combination of technology and software intended to equip business of all sizes with a critical competitive advantage. The on-device apps enable users to do what was once impossible, like translating a document into more than 35 languages in just seconds. Best of all, each user can fully customize their MFP in order to meet their specific business needs. Businesses can now go beyond printing, scanning, faxing and copying, forever changing the way they work.

But are real life users finding this new software to be the game changer it was promised to be? Recently, for one company, the answer is a resounding yes.

Our Non-Xerox Devices Just Didn’t Cut It

Headquartered in Lexington Park, Maryland, Platform Systems Inc. is a world class engineering firm that designs faster, better, stronger aviation technologies which help to protect military pilots. They pride themselves on their quick turnarounds, and needed a way to streamline their manual document workflows. Xerox gave them early access to the new ConnectKey devices in order to get their feedback. Here’s what happened.

The 2016 Xerox® ConnectKey® Technology-enabled ‘i-series’ Smart MFPs revolutionized the way staff worked, using its customizable, intuitive interface and embedded apps to create simple personalized workflows. With the help of the Xerox® Mobile Link App, home-based staff can now send documents and photos to engineers and fabricators in the field with one-touch, scan-to-cloud workflows.

Convenient, Productive, and Easy

The company needed to productively print and scan high-resolution engineering documents, and improve collaboration and communication between aircraft engineers and fabricators in the field. The Xerox® WorkCentre® 7220i gave them the image quality and scanning efficiency they needed, while the addition of @PrintByXerox App made it possible for staff in the field to send photos right to the printers in the main office. Because the user interface is so simple, new users never have to ask questions, making it a huge time saver for the current staff. “The Xerox® WorkCentre® 7220i delivers optimal IQ to capture all the engineering fine points,” says Adam Gibbons, IT Manager at Platform Systems, Inc. “I would describe the ConnectKey Technology as convenient, productive, and easy.” “I’m so impressed with the speed of the scanning. It’s so much faster than our prior non-Xerox® printers,” says Meredith Kratz, Executive Assistant/Human Resources Personnel.”

Innovative Technology, Incredible Results

What started out as a sneak peek into the future of Xerox has turned into a long term plan for Platform Systems, Inc. The results of their experiment with Xerox?

  • Better image quality for fine-detail engineering documents
  • Accelerated and simplified scanning, printing, copying and faxing
  • Enhanced mobile collaborations with one-touch scanning to Dropbox, smartphone integration and direct printing
  • Improved customer satisfaction with more than one method for purchase orders: email, online, or fax
  • Interoperability across a fleet of devices
  • Embedded apps allow for easy connection for mobile workers
